about

Recorded for 50 Songs in 90 Days, 2014.

lyrics

I was walking down main street on Monday
With a paper-thin prize in each paw
A duly unanswered chain letter
And a stub for the week's Lotto draw

As I ambled with no care particular
I was fleetingly taken aback
By a shadowy blur perpendicular
A sleek puss in a tracksuit of black

CHORUS
Now, I never cared for superstition
In the matter of fortune and luck
My felicity's my own volition
My position's to not give a fig
But I knew that my financial standing
Would soon rest in the fingers of fate
As she chose where the spheres would be landing
On the TV on Wednesday at eight

Now, some may have found it appalling
And, indeed I could not help but laugh
But I started to stop my feet falling
On the cracks that I found in my path

Umbrella

Some bloke painting his shop on a ladder

CHORUS

As three bodies collided as one

In the heat of the mid-morning sun

I will spare you, dear listener the details
But it ended in fountains of glass
With me half in a new place of retail
With a brolly secure in my grasp

CHORUS

BRIDGE
It got a little blurry from that point, it must be said
I'm told a helpful fireman wrenched the ladder off my head
I woke up with scant memory of what had gone before
In bed in some old hospital, in time for Wednesday's day

I'm no mystical man or soothsayer
So I felt I'd been struck with a club
When the balls tumbled off the conveyor
In the order I had on my stub

Good and bad luck come equally often
I reflected, my mind well at ease
I might spend the rest of my life coughing
But at least i can cough up the fees!
